Meet Freja

Freja wearing Tai rings, sold at Daisy’s.

When did you start working at Daisy’s?

“Just under a year ago, I think. It was last August actually so just a year now. One year anniversary!”

What did you do before working at Daisy’s?

“I worked at a women’s boutique in San Francisco, it was specifically clothing.”

What is your favorite part about working at Daisy’s?

“Probably that I love everything in here. Since I have to resist shopping the whole day, it’s easy to get excited about helping other people shop, because I want those exact same things. [The customer and I] share that, we have that in common.”

What does your day-to-day schedule look like at Daisy’s?

“Day-to-day would be checking and making sure that every size of clothing is out on the floor, that every style of jewelry is out on the floor, that everything is full and ready to be picked up and handled. Then, greeting people and helping them find things in the store.”

What advice do you have for people looking to go into the retail business?

“Make sure that you love your product, because even when things get hard that’s something you can rely on.”

Tai rings, sold at Daisy’s.

Why did you choose the Tai rings as your favorite item from Daisy’s?

“Because I want to collect every single one of them! I have three different rings so far, I’ve got three different necklaces, maybe six different earrings. So, I have an actual collection and I got them all here, never had them before, but now I can’t stop buying them.”

So you’re addicted to Tai jewelry?

“Yes, yes I am. You can use that word [addicted], it’s the truth! Maybe I should not have bought these [Tai] rings today, but I did anyway.”

What did you want to be when you grew up?

“It changed a few times, but a veterinarian is probably one of the oldest ones. I wanted to be with animals all day, but then when I realized that you’re dealing with sick animals, I was like ‘Oh no, I don’t know if I can handle it!’ So that’s kind of what changed my mind.”

Where is your home town and what is your favorite thing about it?

“I’m from Roseville, it’s near Sacramento. My favorite thing about it would be that it’s surrounded by fields and rice patties. There’s one right next to my old house, so I could just leave the house and stroll around a field.”

What is your favorite place in Alameda so far?

“It would have to be the beach.”

What is your favorite place you’ve ever visited and why?

“Holland. It’s beautiful with the tulip fields, the weather was really nice when I went and I don’t think it gets blazing hot. It’s mild weather, there’s a lot of greenery, even in Amsterdam where I spent a lot of my time. There’s a manmade forest in Amsterdam, it’s bigger than Central Park. Even though you’re in this dense city, like the edgiest city there might be, you can escape into a forest in like 10 minutes.

It’s so beautiful, I would totally move there if they would have me, but apparently it’s hard to immigrate there. They really just let people live there that have a skill that they need. So, if I was a techie or something, more likely I could move there. You know, I guess it’s just the naivety of like ‘Oh, can’t you go anywhere and you know, just start living there?’ No, unfortunately they would kick you out.”

What is your favorite song?

“At the moment I would pick Fly Me To The Moon by Bobby Womack.”

Do you have any advice you’d give to your younger self?

“Don’t be afraid to dress exactly the way you want to. Color is actually your best friend.”

Stay tuned for the next few weeks to meet the rest of the Daisy’s team!
