Meet Leslie

Leslie holding the Pixie Mood bag available at Daisy’s.

How did you start working at Daisy’s?

“I actually found the job while searching on Google jobs. I fell in love with the position when Barbara sent me a questionnaire, it was get-to-know-me questions specifically. It was just so random, like, ‘Peet’s Coffee or Starbucks?'”

What is your favorite part of the job?

“Unboxing. I love to do it with Freja as well, especially if it’s clothes. She’ll be like, ‘I need this!’ It’s the same with with me, I’m like, ‘I really want this too!'”

What does everyday at Daisy’s look like for you?

“It depends, if we have a big shipment most of my time is focused on pricing and unboxing. If not, then just making sure displays are stocked up and that they look cute, and then helping customers.”

What advice do you have for people looking to go into the retail business?

“Honestly, if they’re shy, they just have to get over it. It’s the hard core truth. To this day I’m still learning. Sometimes I’ll have my timid days where I don’t want to talk to customers and other days I’ll come in bursting with energy. You just have to learn how to approach customers.”

Why did you choose the Pixie Mood bag as your favorite Daisy’s item?

“It’s vegan leather and it’s PETA approved. It’s like, yay to the environment, yay to the animals!”

What is your favorite place in Alameda?

“Park Street. It reminds me of Gilmore Girls [the television show], where Luke’s cafe is. I always remember Gilmore Girls when I walk down the street.”

What is your favorite place you’ve ever visited and why?

“My parents are from Guadalajara, Mexico. I lived there for a year when I was like six, but I fell in love with it. Just seeing where my parents grew up and hearing their stories, it’s just nice. It’s a different feel, it’s more laid back in Mexico and more relaxed.”

What do you want to be when you grow up?

“I’m still thinking but for a really long time I wanted to be a translator in courts and hospitals, translating from English to Spanish or vice versa. I’m always changing, I also wanted to do something with environmental policy.”

What is your favorite song?

“Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.”

What advice would you give to your younger self?

“I feel like I’m still my younger self. I guess, advice to my high school self, don’t skip classes!”

Stay tuned for the next few weeks to meet the rest of the Daisy’s team!
